NEW Vacuum Furnace FIM/FPt - Melting Platinum, Palladium and Platinum Group Metals

VACUUM MELTING FURNACE TYPE FIM/FPt

The furnace is used to melt platinum, palladium and dental alloys with a final purity containing less than
10 ppm of oxygen. The ingots or rods produced in these melting units can be directly rolled down
without hammering.

All ITALIMPIANTI ORAFI induction melting furnaces are fitted with static medium frequency
converters (from 4 to 15 Khz).

A highly efficient electrical output that drastically reduces electricity consumption while maintaining the
production rate is obtained thanks to the frequency conversion system.

The modular construction of the circuit boards greatly simplifies maintenance operations and guarantees
high reliability even in the most demanding working conditions.

Technical Data of the furnace

The furnace consists of a water-cooled stainless steel chamber inside which the crucible and ingot mould
tilt for the pouring process.

The tilting mechanism is controlled by a gear motor with inverter and joystick.

    Process features

    • Temperature measurement : By an infrared optical pyrometer that reads metal emissivity
    • Protective atmosphere : Melting, homogenisation and pouring operations can be carried out either
under vacuum or in a protective atmosphere
    • Medium Frequency Generator : All of our melting furnaces work at medium frequency; the inductive
currents that heat up the alloy automatically stir it as well. The result is complete homogeneity of
the final product. This also avoids prealloying in a separate melter.
    • Solidification : After pouring is over, an inert gas flows into the melting chamber to protect the metal
from oxidation during the solidification process.
    • Cooling : After the preset solidification time is up, the melting chamber is depressurized, the ingot is
removed and subsequently cooled in water.

This is the menu where all the working parameters are displayed for references during the melting process.

    • OUTPUT V : This is the power output on the melting coil, in Volts
    • TEMPERATURE : This is the temperature of the metal as read by the optical pyrometer
    • PRESSURE : This is the value of the pressure inside the chamber
    • ROT. SPEED : This is the rotation speed in percentage of the melting box inside the chamber.
    • POWER OUTPUT : This is the power output on the melting coil, in kW.
    • START CYCLE : Press this button to start the melting cycle
    • RESET CYCLE : Press this button to stop the melting cycle and reset the machine.
